Building an online presence is of paramount importance for an artist. It can also be a perplexing challnge for many of us artists as well. After all, we are artists, not marketers or salespeople, right???
Although there are about as many avenues you can take to promoting yourself and building an online presence as there are images in your gallery, these options can be overwhelming. It is difficult to know where to start. Of course you have to start with either having your own website or having a gallery of your own on an art community, art store, or something of that sort, but today I am going to focus on something a little different.
Yes, it is really important to build a repuation within an art community of likeminded people, but you also need to expand yourself to reach a larger audience than just those who have the same goals as yours.
Social networking is an incredible option because you are not direct selling, hard selling, or paying huge amounts of money to advertise. You are also not exchanging links or traffic with people who are only trying to rack up enough points themselves and not really interested in your site or your art.
With social networking, you are building relationships, expressing yourself, having fun, and for us ...displaying our art. And there are many ways to do this. You can post your art on your profile, in your picture section, make slideshows, in your blogs you can post pics and talk about any events, etc., you can join art / photography clubs. You can also send your art as comments.
I have always wanted to join a social network but was a little leery of Myspace because it is a little racey, and my goal is to promote my art. So, I just found a new social networking site that has all the same features as Myspace, but it also pays you. No Kidding! You get paid for every page view you have on yoru profile and your downline's profiles. Plus every action you take, like posting a picture, a video, updating your profile, posting a blog, etc. etc.
Besides the huge perk of getting paid, the other reason I love Yuwie is because the people are so nice and many of them are there to share their knowledge and offer intereesting tips to being successful online as well. I am already addicted!
The vote is in, and the winner for this month's conttest is:
Reflections In The Sand by the fabulous photographer:Poppykitten.
Coming in second is the extremely talented photographer, Ravenor
with his brilliant photo,Twilight:
Congratuklations to both of you. These are both amazing works of art. Please see Poppykitten in Featured Photographers.
And, thank you everybody for your participation. It was really difficult to narrow it down to the final 8. This group brings so much talent to the table.
